No AFL-CIO endorsement for Cuomo

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Another labor union has snubbed New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

The New York State AFL-CIO on Monday announced the candidates it is endorsing in the fall elections. Notably missing from the list was Cuomo, a Democrat who was endorsed by the powerful union in 2010.

Last week, the state’s second-largest public-sector union endorsed Cuomo’s primary challenger, Fordham University law professor Zephyr Teachout.

Meanwhile, the state’s teachers’ union announced that it wouldn’t endorse any candidate in the race.

Democratic candidates have long relied on support from organized labor, but Cuomo has had a more contentious relationship with unions, and has angered some liberal members of his party by supporting charter schools and business-friendly tax cuts.

Candidates receiving the AFL-CIO’s nod Monday include state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli and Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.
