Man burned after propane tank explodes behind Ithaca stores

A man was injured Saturday night after a propane tank exploded at his camp site in Ithaca.

Police went to a wooded area behind chain stores off Elmira Road along the Fairgrounds Memorial Parkway after 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police say when the tank exploded, the man’s tent caught on fire.

The unidentified man was burned, but was able to walk to a nearby business and get help.

He was taken to a regional trauma center for treatment. There’s no word this morning on his condition.
