Heroin task force visits Elmira

New York State Senate’s Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction came to Elmira College for a public roundtable discussion.

The Task Force has been holding public forums since early April in every region of the state to find out what can be done to combat the growing problem.

State Senator Tom O’Mara serves on the task force.

“I appreciate everyone on the front lines locally who joined us to help us zero in on the heroin crisis,” O’Mara said.

According to figures from Cayuga Addiction Recovery Services in Ithaca, the numbers of 19-to-25 year-olds in the Southern Tier treated for drug abuse increased more than 35 percent from 2007 to 2012.
