Video may show suspect connected to thefts from area cars

For months, there’s been a search for a suspect or suspects connected to dozens of thefts from cars in Tompkins County.

Now, investigators think they might have a break, after a potential suspect was capture on video this weekend.

“We were made aware of it through a complaint our office took from an individual on Taughannock Boulevard,” says Tompkins County Sheriff’s Investigator Kevin Cowan. “He has video recording at his home, and when he reviewed his video Sunday, he realized someone had been on his property and in his garage.”

Cowan says their department alone had at least ten additional reports of thefts from cars this weekend.

The thefts have been focused on the west side of Cayuga Lake, in areas of the town of Ithaca, Ulysses and Enfield.
