Unemployment rates released for Tompkins, Cortland counties

The State Department of Labor has released unemployment figures for the month of October.

The state’s unemployment rate is 7.7 percent, slightly higher than the national average.

Tompkins County retains its title as the county with the lowest unemployment rate in all of New York State at 4.8 percent.

Cortland County’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 7.1 percent.

The state added 9,000 private sector jobs last month, bringing the state’s job count to a record high of nearly 7.5 million.
