Unemployment rate stays low in Ithaca, drops in Cortland

New numbers show the Ithaca area continues to have the strongest job market in the state.

The unemployment rate was 5.1% in Ithaca for the month of May. That remains the lowest rate throughout New York state, but it is three-tenths of a percent higher than the rate in April.

In Cortland County, the unemployment rate dropped by nearly a full percentage point in May to 7.2%.

That’s the same rate as the unemployment rate in upstate New York for the month of May. Compare that to the upstate unemployment numbers in May of 2012, when the rate was at 8.2%.
