Silver admits mistakes were made with Lopez

State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver admits that he made mistakes handing sexual harassment allegations against former Assemblyman Vito Lopez.

Speaking yesterday – the same day Lopez resigned in the wake of a J-COPE investigation into harassment allegations levied by two former female aides – Silver said it’s his responsibility that mistakes never happen again.

Silver said he is establishing an independent investigator to handle all harassment complaints and he’ll also propose a bill banning the kind of confidential settlements which Lopez forced his victims to sign.
