Red Cross experiencing blood shortage

A nationwide blood shortage has the American Red Cross issuing an emergency request for donors of all blood types to help the cause.

Red Cross blood donations were down by about 10% across the country in June, with about 50,000 fewer donations than expected.

Spokesperson with the Red Cross Kim Becker says June can be one of the most challenging months for blood and platelet donations, as frequent donors adjust to their summer schedule while students are out of town.

Becker says anyone who wishes to donate blood can find a blood drive nearby by visiting RedCross.org
