HS graduation rate at 74% statewide

The New York State Education Department this week released high school graduation rates for those who entered the ninth grade in 2008.

The statewide graduation rate remains at 74% despite higher graduation standards.

Superintendent of Trumansburg Schools Michael McGuire says the district has a graduation rate of 89.8%, and believes the implementation of Common Core standards will better help prepare younger students for the trials and tribulations of high school, resulting in a higher graduation rate in the future.

McGuire says he is happy with the district’s numbers, but wants the schools to work towards a 100% graduation rate.
