Food Bank receives $45k from Walmart initiative

The Food Bank of the Southern Tier has been selected as one of the 40 winning food banks across the country to receive a $45,000 grant from Walmart.

The money was awarded through Walmart’s Fighting Hunger Together Initiative.

Throughout April, Facebook fans voted for more than 100 Feeding America Food Banks, and the Southern Tier edged out food banks in much larger markets.

The money will go towards the expansion of the Food Bank’s Backpack program, which provides healthy, child-friendly, and easy to prepare foods to children at risk of hunger over weekends and holiday breaks when they’re not able to take advantage of the school meal program.
