Couple dies when car crashes off Finger Lakes road

Authorities say a husband and wife from a Rochester suburb have died in a one-car crash on a rural road in the Fingers Lakes region.

The Seneca County Sheriff’ Office tells the Democrat and Chronicle of Rochester that 85-year-old Philip Gaboury of Henrietta was driving on Route 96A late Sunday morning when his car left the road and hit several trees in the town of Fayette, between Seneca and Cayuga lakes.

Deputies say Gaboury and his 86-year-old wife, Rose, were flown to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where they died from their injuries.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
