Chief Engineer

We have a rare opening in our company for an experienced chief engineer for our radio stations in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York.  Saga Communications promotes from within.  Our present CE in Ithaca will be leaving to become the corporate director of engineering. We operate three FM, two AM stations, translators and HD FM multicast channels programmed from excellent studio facilities in Ithaca NY. The Finger Lakes region is an exceptionally beautiful part of central New York State.  The lakes offer an abundance of water sports activities and the climate is ideal for vineyards and other agricultural pursuits.  This is wine country.  Opportunities abound with both Ithaca College and Cornell University contributing to the cultural quality of the region. Candidate should have experience in AM & FM RF transmission systems including digital HD radio, studio audio both analog and digital and sufficient IT knowledge to work with and install broadcast automation, DAW’s and general workstations.  FCC and SBE certifications are a plus.  Candidate should have good interpersonal skills and be a self-starter who can take charge of projects and organize their own work day.  Candidate will be responsible for developing annual local engineering capital expenditure budgets and help plan for future growth and upgrades.  Candidate will have the autonomy to hire contractors with special skills to help with engineering projects. Candidate will work with a regional IT engineer who will provide most of the IT intensive support for the stations.  In addition, the chief engineers of other clusters are available to advise and aid as needed.   And the corporate director of engineering will provide support on engineering and legal matters through other corporate resources. Offer includes a competitive salary, use of a company vehicle including fuel, free cell phone, excellent health plan, and a 401k plan. Ask any of Saga Communication’s 19 Chief Engineers about the respect, support and consistent investment in our broadcast facilities and our people that has created a stable work environment and enviable reputation for professionalism in the broadcast industry.
